About Us
OK, so here is how it started. I bought my first X10 camera many years ago in response to my father's baseball card shop being broken into. I decided I could buy 3 cameras for much less than having a security system installed and they would be color instead of the traditional black & white security cameras normally are. However, to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. It wasn't that their cameras didn't work, because they did, it was that the quality was no where near what I had seen on the website. I then realized the images on the website are simulated, or fake.
Now, here I am almost 6 years later finally creating a website to help others. The idea suddenly came into my mind when I saw the release of their new Vanguard camera system. I purchased one and was finally satisfied with the quality I was seeing. I am not saying that everyone should purchase the Vanguard or Sentinel cameras as I know they are quite a bit more expensive, but rather that everyone should know what they are buying before hand. The XCam 2 series of cameras serve a very important purpose and are all many will ever need. They were perfect for my dad's shop and worked well, it was simply the fact that I felt I didn't get what I ordered that led to my disappointment. If you need an inexpensive camera system capable of automatically recording to a VCR or PC and aren't as concerned with quality as you are the security they provide, the XCam 2 series will work just fine. Their images are sufficient that you could certainly use them to provide police with a suspect's pictures and they would certainly help in convicting him. If you are just looking for a camera that is easy to install and you can use to monitor your kid's bedroom or the backyard, they are perfect as well. You really can't beat how easy they are to setup. You can seriously be broadcasting live video to your TV or PC in less than 5 minutes.
However, if what you need is a serious security camera solution, X-10 finally has a solution for you as well with their new Vanguard and Sentinel series. They have great video quality, 44X Zoom, pan & tilt, and the Sentinel is even enclosed in a bubble so you can install it outside. They both transmit video either wirelessly or via an included cable and still fit in many people's budgets. In the end, the camera you need is more of a personal and money preference than anything else. If you don't know which one you need, use our Camera Comparison page or our Which is Right for Me wizard. Or, feel free to contact me directly and I will be happy to help. Just remember, I am not associated with X10 and my recommendations are simply based on my 6 years of experience.
